30 in 30: No. 1 - For the Sake of the Story

“I’ll have a triple tall Americano. And…can I take your picture with my cell phone?” I asked. “Sure, why?” he answered. My response, “I told my friend I have a crush on the guy who makes my coffee and she doesn’t believe me.”

This story is just one example of my life motto, (not to be confused with my philosophy of life or anything too serious) “Live your life for the sake of the story. People will think you are crazy, but wouldn’t you rather be crazy than boring?”

This motto has allowed me to experience AND get through some adventures including, but not limited to getting hauled into the Albany Police Station with friends for climbing a Cell One tower. Striking up conversations with people I would otherwise have never met. Laughing about a flat tire on a 15 passenger van with my friend Brian in the middle of nowhere on a mission trip in Mexico. Road tripping across the country more times than I can count. Singing Karaoke. Dancing in the middle of a drum circle at Venice beach. Riding a mechanical bull. Traveling the world. Auditioning for The Real World with Kerri. Auditioning for American Idol with Danielle. Going out of my way to make people laugh. Peeing my pants in depends… twice. Peeing my pants unintentionally because I was laughing too hard too many times to count. And eventually signing up for eHarmony.

There is so much power in a story. In my next 30 years, I plan to continue to tell my story through journaling (which I have done far too little of lately). I plan to listen to the stories of others. I plan to continue to live, knowing that my story will be told after I am gone. Maybe… I’ll leave some bits out when I tell these stories to my children though…maybe.

OK, here it is, 1:05 am and as I was thinking of and praying for you, I realized I never read all your blog. So, bleary-eyed, I will attempt to read it, to feel even closer to you than I already do, because you are such a part of my heart and I love you and your precious Eric. By the time I'm through, I'm sure I will know something about you that I didn't know before and It will make me love you, and the person you are, even more.
