Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails

That's what little boys are made of. Well, my last post was the day before our ultrasound at 18 1/2 weeks. Eric and I loved having the opportunity to peek in on what our little guy was up to. Yep! Our little GUY! We knew that we would be thrilled with a boy or a girl. And we ARE just thrilled that we are going to have a son. When the ultrasound tech said "Well, you guys are having a boy. I have no doubt about that. He just stuck that thing right out there." We both just laughed, and then I cried. Of course. So, I'm a boys mom. There is something that feels really incredible about conceiving a son. Having a son is really important to Eric, and it feels like such a privilege to carry his son. Now, on to the process of choosing his name. We've been having fun brainstorming. You won't hear anything until he's born, but yes... we're working on it.

Here he is!

Since I first felt him start moving three weeks ago, his movement has increased a lot. It's not unusual for me to be sitting in a meeting at work and for him to start doing somersaults. Yesterday I was sitting with my arms crossed on top of my bump and he kicked me twice right where my arms were, so I don't think he liked me invading his space. The coolest thing is that he has started responding to touch. If I push in a spot on my tummy, he'll kick there. Then I'll move to another spot and he'll chase me around my tummy. Because he's so responsive, Eric has been able to feel him now a number of times (as well as a few of my girlfriends). He is very active and he seems to be really strong. One thing he likes to do is ball up on one side or the other. It feels really weird and my belly looks really uneven. I also think that he gets crowded when I have to go pee, because he will start kicking on my bladder.

To summarize how I feel about all this... I just think that this kid is the most incredible person in existence. It is so much fun for me to be able to bond and connect with him already. I love that he goes everywhere with me. And it is hard to imagine how I could possibly love him as much as I already do. He brings me so much joy and can so quickly move me to laughter or tears. He is already such a blessing to both of us and he is already loved so much.

20 weeks- I need to take a more recent pictures because the bump has grown even since then.

I'm heading into my busiest season at work starting in two weeks, so I'll need to figure out how to incorporate rest into the month of August. With all of my responsibilities it will be difficult, but I know that I need to ask for help when I need it. Don't be surprised if you don't hear from me for a while. I'll be back soon.

Just catching up on your blog after far too long and woah, crazy how time flies! It wasn't very long ago we were meeting for Taboo Topics in your apartment, and you were 27 and still looking. Now you have an ultrasound, and I've graduated and moved down to Portland myself. Thanks for being our Momma Trae, and best wishes in your entry into the world of being a mother in a whole different way!
