30 in 30 No. 17 - The In-Laws

Mom and Dad Vogt are here for the weekend, so it’s only fitting that I blog about them. As with most of our culture, as I grew up I was exposed to all of the common stereotypes about in-laws. As I neared the age where I began thinking about the possibility of getting married I decided that one of the MOST important factors in who I would decide to marry was his family. I didn’t want to live with the drama that I had so often seen married couples go through with one another’s families. It is possible that I prayed more for this than the actual guy I would marry.

When Eric described his family to me he said “I come from a family that is pretty much as normal as they come.” Not only have they proven this to be true, they have by far exceeded any expectations that I had. Just as with Eric, I could not have dreamed up a more incredible family to marry into. I have come to love Eric’s parents so much! They are very accepting of me and I feel so comfortable around them. They love the Lord so much and have raised a family that reflects the love of Christ in the way that they interact with one another. Jeff and Curtis are so much fun and I love spending time with them. Though Tanya was a little bummed to be bumped as the only daughter-in-law, she quickly accepted me as a sister and a friend. And I will soon be bumped as the newest daughter-in-law and Anne will take that place and I am very excited take on the responsibility of welcoming her into the family. And then there’s Megan, Gabby and Marty who I just can’t get enough of. My only complaint about this family is the distance that lies between us. It is difficult to only see them a few times a year, but absolutely savor every moment that we get to spend with them. I am proud to be a Vogt and I thank God for such a wonderful family with a rich legacy that I hope be part of carrying on. I love you guys!!
